We Are Beard Askew

Every one of our films makes a change somewhere in the world.  With offices in both London and Edinburgh we craft films about responsible and interesting subjects.  As a company we have ethical principles at our heart and we want our films to help people better understand the world and tell their stories.

Jade Beard
London Director

Jade heads up our London office but finds herself travelling between the London and Edinburgh bases creating content across the country, she also has extensive experience working on location overseas. Jade has produced and directed short films, documentaries and promotional films for a range of clients and her portfolio is growing every month. Her interview technique captures even the hardest of contributors and her passion for speaking with people and finding their story is invaluable.

Tim Askew
Edinburgh Director

In recent months, Tim has rediscovered his sea legs after several shoots on the high seas - nothing is a challenge for this guy! He has filmed for all the main terrestrial channels in the UK, as well as his proven track record making short films and documentaries for not-for-profit organisations in southern Africa and Europe. Tim's ability to research a subject extensively ensures that Beard Askew continues to make films that inspire change. Tim heads up the Edinburgh office and he is passionate about promoting Scottish produce.

Robyn Gollifer

Robyn is our Researcher/AP and knows how to find a story. Both her film treatments and ideas have impressed clients and her way with contributors is invaluable. Her practice is shaped by her international background, having grown up in Singapore. Previous work has taken her to Vietnam where she was Chairperson of a project charged with helping underprivileged children and she has also undertaken fundraising work for both the British Red Cross and RSPCA.

We welcome Robyn as the newest member of our growing team!

Simon Berry

A digital-wiz-kid and all round doer of things, Simon is Beard Askew's newest recruit. His positivity and infectious enthusiasm, combined with experience in events, web video, and performance mean everything he does is done with a smile!
When he's not in the office or on location, you'll find Simon baking cakes or performing unicycle shows at events across the world.

Lucy Kendra
Filmmaker/Graphic Designer

As a professional vocalist and musician she’s collaborated in all sorts of genres and has broadcast on national and international radio. Passionate about documentary, Lucy loves to tell stories through sound and image.

Online Designer

A social media pro and a general internet technologies guru, Will is responsible for Beard Askew’s electronic and online efforts, as well as those of our clients. Will originally studied accountancy, but draws on his experience of running several small businesses and was Sports Union President at University. Earlier in life he also managed events and exhibitions for Scotland's largest independent marketing agency.

Laurence Johnson

Laurence first joined us on our Sea to Plate filming in 2013 where he was an instant hit with Tim and Jade and has continued to be a valued member of the Beard Askew team since. Film projects have taken him to India, Nepal, Myanmar and Cambodia. As a DOP Laurence is extremely hard working and lives for the passion of creating something original and thought provoking that makes a difference.

We are proud to have worked with companies who have strong principles and campaigns at their core.  With great care we take concepts and give them a personal and creative treatment, getting your message across with sensitivity and authenticity.  Our team is a collective of very talented creatives with a wide range of interests; this means that we cherry pick the best depending on the subject matter to make sure that your film is brilliant. We think beyond the film and focus on the results – after all, what is the purpose of a film if it doesn’t make you feel something!

We always have an initial meeting to discuss the project. Relationships with partners are the core to a story and project.

The process grows out of collaboration and commitment to visual storytelling. After the initial meetings we treat the idea.

After initial development we start filming. Our Production Management and scheduling in the lead up to this is key.

After the filming days Beard Askew will begin the post production process. This is where our footage meets a bearded editor and...

A film is born! Your idea has been visualised. This is where we make final changes and work together to market the film.

We love what we do and helping people visualise their project.  Telling stories that would otherwise go unheard is central to our ethos.  With this in mind, every year we take on 3 self-funded projects.  The projects are selected by the Beard Askew team from either requests emailed in OR from the passionate people we have met along our journey.  So far these projects have highlighted the battle with invasive species in West Scotland, encouraged the public to shop British and we have followed a zealous group of unicyclists, on their quest to promote their sport, on a road trip to the highlands.  If you have a story that you would love us to tell then please get in touch.
